Child Health Now

Ensuring good health for pregnant women and their babies is a critical step to achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

The world can save millions of children under the age of five who die every year from easily preventable diseases. We can prevent millions of mothers from dying during pregnancy or childbirth. But we need to act now!

Governments around the world promised to reduce maternal and child deaths when they signed up to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – a set of eight targets to tackle extreme poverty by 2015. The fourth goal promised to reduce under-five child deaths by two-thirds, and the fifth goal promised to reduce maternal deaths by three-quarters.

Despite this promise, many governments have failed to prioritise the health needs of women and children. At the current rate of progress, we won’t achieve the fourth Millennium Development Goal until 2030 – fifteen years after the deadline! If world leaders don’t act now to keep their commitments, women and children will continue to suffer.

This injustice is the motivation behind World Vision’s global Child Health Now campaign. The campaign aims to hold world leaders accountable to their promises to improve the survival of women and children. World Vision is mobilising millions of supporters worldwide to demand improved health for women and children everywhere.

Get involved in World Vision’s Child Health Now campaign today and help put an end to this health crisis.
